Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge 2007

We took a family trip to the Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge near Dover, Delaware in October of 2007. The purported goal of the trip was to watch birds, but as it was my first time here, there was quite a bit more to watch.

This was the first nice view that greeted us as we began our tour.

The refuge is not very far from the Dover Air Force Base, so a few of the "birds" that we saw were of the mechanical type. These pictures don't really tell the whole story... it was pretty amazing watching a large aircraft move and turn the way it did, all at a relatively low altitude.

One of the most spectacular things we saw were the snow geese. There must have been hundreds of these birds literally blanketing the grounds here. Unfortunatly, you cannot venture too far off of the road, as it is forbidden in the refuge.

Perhaps we agitated them...

We poked around some more in the refuge...
