Back in April of 2005, Sarah had directed me to plan a trip to Calvert Cliffs State Park near Lusby, MD. From what I gathered, this trip was an attempt to fulfill her fossil collecting fetish hobby. This state park is located on the western shore of the Chesapeake Bay in Calvert County, MD. Many shark teeth and other fossils have been recovered at this site. The name of this park refers to the cliffs which stick out into the Bay.
Of course, to get to the shore, we had to hike a few miles first. As the "short way" was cut off due to damage caused by recent storms, we had to take the "long way." For those of you who were read an old Berenstain Bears book about Papa Bear leading the kids camping, you know to never to take the short way.
There was quite a bit to see in the forest here:

For some reason... this trail was one that went uphill both ways (aren't they all like that?) One thing I did notice (and why I did not snap a pic, I don't remember...) was that at one point on the trail, they had one of those cable TV boxes you see out in the street. I guess its nice to know that we might be able to watch TV while hiking (I wish!).

No hike in the woods would be complete without taking pictures of these!

Makes sense that everything should get a little more wet, correct?

Unfortunately, it was impossible to navigate to the tallest cliff, but the shoreline and view towards the Bay were nice to see.

Before we headed on back, I just had to take pictures of the waterfowl :)

I just realized the whole point of this trip was to find fossils and ignore everything else. I guess I did not do so well, but I did manage to take a picture of one thing Sarah found. I guess this counts as a fossil right?
