Stupid Networking Tricks

I'm a coder, a coder who hates IT, and a coder who really wishes he wasn't distracted by IT. But like all coders who did the simple Linksys "network-in-a-box" home-based network, I've been drafted at times to be the de facto "network guy." Since I don't particularly like this job, I decided I would put up some of the tricks I learned so that others in my situation wouldn't have to suffer the way I did.

I know that for anyone who even has half a networking certification, all of the following are laughingly simple things to do, but that's what happens when you make coders in charge of IT. :) This list will grow as I convert more of my hand-written and MS Word based notes into HTML.

1. Getting a Quick and Dirty Samba Installation Going
2. Disable Root Login for SSH Connections
3. Linux Wireless (802.11b/g) Cheat Sheet
4. Search for Text Within Files Using Linux/Unix
5. Stopping SELinux From Breaking vsftpd Write Operations
6. Problems with vsftpd Ignoring User Configuration Files
7. How to Grant a User FTP Access but Deny SSH Access
8. How to See cron Jobs for All Users
9. How to Set up Persistent Static Routes in Linux
